Work Begins on Vangobot 3 & 4 : 03 15 2010

Here’s the info I put together on the paint mixer project. Thought I would get it to you prior to when you come down so you would have a chance to look it over before we met. I
included a vague description on the scope of the project thinking we could talk specifics when you’re here.

[start
of the design process for building our own mux board IC]

Here’s the old wrist I think the spindle is still useable if we go with the fixed angle brush. everything about this could be scaled down… Remember this was designed before any actual building was ever done I can see alot of things I would do different just looking at.

[concept drawing from original VB2
plans that included a wrist ‚ [being considered again for VB3 but later excluded due to time constraints]

Here’s an outline I put together for the electrical phase 1. Will you look it over and see if there is anything that needs to be added etc. I’ve got docs and diagrams that I’ll package this up with.

Electrical Phase 1

I.
Analyze components currently used by the gantry table. These components control only the X, Y and Z motion of the machine.

Goals:
A. Size power supply to motor controllers and
stepper motors.
1. We are interested in getting the maximum speed possible out of the motors.
a. Figure out Volts in-relation to speed
b. Figure out Torque in relationship to amps.

B.
Review motor controllers are we using the right ones for our needs.
1. Look at brands other then Keling

C. Review stepper motors.
1. Look at brands other then Keling
2. We are locked into using NEMA 34 motors
a. 8 wire motors vs. 4 wire motors
b. Determine the best wiring connection for our purpose
• Unipolar
• Bi-polar Series
• Bi-polar parallel

II. Design an emergency stop circuit

lll. Design a proximity/limit switch circuit for the the X, Y and Z

IV.
Design a home switch circuit
Goals:
A. Switch would return the X,Y and Z to their respective O,O,O positions

V. Spec and source multi conductor cables.

VI. Spec and source electrical enclosure.

VII. Spec and source cable management system.
A.
Based on your findings for cabling find an appropriate cable carrier.
Generically it‚ called e-chain.

significant number of parts that we don’t need to have made. Since

Tomorrow plans to Source 1 then trolley drawings.

OK I am done with the mixer except for the free spinning foot. This worked out really well the turret Dia. is 7.5" the width of the Z’s spider is 7.75". There won’t be any clearance problem because the sides od the supper structure are open near the turret’s plates. I’ve got .ai files ready to convert to .dfx’s when we are ready.

Did not hear from anyone. I just remembered I have a job to do for Nicki. I will do that Monday am. Template for monthly product special.
Then I will work on the Super structure sides and the "Y" This going t come together fast.

Got the painting box and shipped.

Talked to Tony about power supplys this am. I ended up calling "John" at Keling and discussed our system I sent him an email specing out our needs and he put together a package for us. He gave us 5% off for a qty buy. we’ll save a couple of bills.

I tried to order those precision guides from Grainger no longer in stock. No big deal. I found that superior bearing makes a small v bearing so I went with that set up… At least when I asked for pricing in my quote from Rick at Superior bearing. By tomorrow we should have pricing for the v rail also.

Called our sales rep at Hayden Kerk to place the order for the actuators she was a way from her desk so I sent her email requesting final pricing on those with the intent to place the order.

consider the message passed on…

Amazing how you can eat up a day making call and sending emails.

I am tracking that budget price changes shipping costs what has been ordered what needs to be ordered etc. So it is at least organised.

OK Y car is complete. Need to make the following:

Palette Shuttle Baseplate Palette Motor Mount ; Palette Scraper Bar Palette Scraper & Palette Platen

Then I need to scale down and throw everything on it’s own page. I should have this stuff done in the am then will get them on pages and get .ai files exported for you to convert to .dfx’s I am going to ad some mounting holes to the bulkheads that are tapped so we can attach the tool/brush changer shuttle.
